River Fishing

With a wealth of experience behind him, Jamie Beitzel is extremely well versed in all facets of river fishing. Techniques include the following:

  • lure
  • popper
  • soft plastics
  • fly fishing and;
  • the very productive method of live baiting

He caters for all levels of angling from the experienced fisho, to the novice and especially family arrangements.

With such a vast waterway stretching from the river mouth, into the middle sections of brackish water and right up into the fresh, Jamie knows this system like no other.

The lower or saltwater section of the Daintree River mouth up to the Cape Tribulation Ferry Crossing covers around 25km of tributaries and main channel. It is home to the biggest queenfish in the area surpassing over 1m, the most abundant supply of the highly sought after fingermark, a constant run of golden trevally / Gt's, the biggest grunter javelinfish across the flats, ready supply of famous mud crabs as well as your hall mark barramundi and mangrove jack. There are lots of other surprises that frequent the lower river at various times including permit, flathead, big shovel nose ray, stingrays, feather bream and sickle fish to name a few.

As you move into the upper reaches covering a further 15km of unique river, barramundi, mangrove jack, tarpon and trevally push deep into the system. As you pass the Daintree Village, archerfish and perch are also a viable catch.

Overall it is the river fishing mecca of FNQ.

As part of the experience in this World Heritage listed Daintree Rainforest, you'll have the very best croc spotting opportunities and take in some very unique flora and fauna.

The scenery is also just breathtaking, adding to a wonderful experience. In season whales, dolphins and tuna schools just add to the spectacle.
